Back on the horse
ell, 21:06h
You may not think it from a Nerd-Girl like me, but I'm acutally a horse person. And I guess I'm a bit nerdy about horses, too. My favourite horses, although I've never ridden one yet, are the two meter tall, rather slim, but still heavy Shire Horses and their scottish relatives, the Clydesdales. I like driving as well as riding and, nerd-point, I can talk hours about horses, driving, riding, draft-horses, horse logging, breeds and, for some reason I don't really understand myself, the genetic of horse-coat-colors.
And until a few years ago I've been riding, even more or less regularily for some time.
In the last few weeks I have noticed that I definitely need some sport to keep myself active as especially my back-musculatur is by now practically non-existant. So I thought, why not start riding again? (And this time somewhat more regularily.)
It took me one month until I could settle on a stable, and gather all my riding-stuff (helmet, pants, bootletts and breeches) from the different corners of basement closets and the saddle-room of a friend of mine where I used to ride. Now today I was back on the horse, for the first time in about four or five year, the horse being Safir (the German word for "Saphire"), a ten-year-old, 1.75 meter chestnut gelding.
For all those not as aquainted with horses as I am: A gelding, or gelded animal is a male animal, that has been castrated and a chestnut is fox-colored horse. Now Safir had the annoying habit of just stoping and standing sometimes in the way of "We're done, can I go now?" Also he used it as an excuse that he had to pee. In the whole 45 minutes of the lesson, he stopped whole 3 times to pee.
But all in all it went well, I even managed to gallop without a lunge (more or less). I only think I'll have a lot of muscle ache tomorrow... But that only means I got to train more, meaning: Next saturday I'll be back.
